Nick is considered one of the most painful areas to get a tattoo on. Many factors enhance the neck’s pain level but some of them are. The thin layer of skin in the neck region and the thousands of sensory neurons present help to bring the pain threshold towards the central nervous system. After processing by the central nervous system, it brings a message with the help of motor neurons to the neck and hence we feel pain.
Factors to measure the pain of tattoo on the neck:
Some people feel a lot of pain while getting a tattoo. There are others who feel less pain during tattooing. The pain level of each person differs from another person but here we are discussing some common factors which affect the pain on your neck.

Tattoo artist expertise:
Some well-known tattoo artists are very professional in their work. They suffer a large part of their life in the tattoo industry. When they start tattooing on your neck, it will feel less painful than when you get a tattoo from a younger tattoo artist. Their efficiency in this work is high and takes less time as compared to younger tattoo artists. That’s how it takes less time for neck tattoos and beautiful designs will appear.
Male and female differences in pain level:
Mostly it is seen that women can not bear more pain than men while tattooing on their neck. Males can tolerate a bit more pain, as compared to females. That’s how the pain levels for both are different.
Size of tattoo on the neck:
The tattoo shape and size play a critical role in the pain of the tattoo on the neck. If the size of the tattoo is small, then it will take less time and hence it will feel pain for less time. On the other hand, large-size tattoos will hurt you for a long time.
The complexity of the tattoo on the neck also plays a role in the pain of the tattoo. If the design of a tattoo is complex, it will take more time and hence will feel painful for more time, than a simple design and structure.
Neck tattoo hurts based on location:
There are different areas on the neck, some feel more painful while some of them feel less. It depends upon the skin layer of the neck. The area where the skin layer is thick will be less hurtful and the area where the skin is thinner will feel more painful. Some areas based on pain level are discussed below.
The front side of the neck for tattooing:
The front side of the neck is one of the most painful areas of the body. The tattoos present in this area are fewer in number, and they are not as popular as compared to sleeve tattoos. The front side of the neck tattoo is so sensitive to touch and pain. It contains thousands of nociceptors and a thin layer of skin, which enhances the pain when a nail hits it strongly and injects ink there. If we rate the front side of the neck at 10. Then obviously it will be 10/10 because it is so hurtful. Most professional artists don’t recommend it, because it’s hurtful.

Left and right side of neck:
Both of these sides are considered in the medium of front and back side pain. It is less painful than the front side neck and more painful than the back side neck. If we compare it with overall body pain. Then the left and right sides of the neck are considered very painful spots for tattooing. Mostly these areas are not recommended.

Back of the neck pain level:
There are a high number of clients who want to get a small tattoo on the back of their neck. Compared to front and sides, back neck tattoos are popular among clients. Clients want to get a cultural tattoo, cross tattoo, arrow tattoo, butterfly tattoo, key tattoo, screw tattoo, etc on the back of the neck. There are a lot of females who also have these tattoos on the back of the neck, which confirms that it is a bit easier to get a tattoo on the neck.
The skin present in the back of the tattoo is thicker as compared to the front neck, that’s why it feels less pain than the front one. On the other hand, it has thousands of sensory nerves that enhance the feeling of pain.

Conclusion of pain in the neck:
It is concluded that the front and sides of the neck are very painful while getting a tattoo. The backside of the neck is less painful than the front and sides of the neck, but more painful than other parts of body tattoos.
